Top Ways to Organize a Freezer

A clutter-free home is like a dream; clutter can form in our homes so quickly! We often think of organizing our kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets, and closets, but have you ever considered that you could keep your fridge more organized too? Not only can you keep your refrigerator neat, but you can organize your freezer too. Below are the top ways to organize a freezer like a pro.

Organize According to Freezer Type

Freezer with Shelves

The first step is to organize your freezer according to the type of freezer you have. One kind is a freezer with shelves. Open the door, and you see the freezer shelves. To better organize your freezer shelves, you can use freezer-safe bins to keep provisions in neat piles rather than stacked and stuffed together. Labeling each bin will bring even more clarity.

Pull-Out Freezer

A freezer drawer is one that pulls out. It typically has one shallow drawer that slides in and out over the larger lower bin. This lower bin may or may not have built-in dividers. Like with the other type of freezer, you can organize your frozen goods with appropriate bins.

Organize by Use

No matter what freezer style you have, one of the top ways to organize a freezer would be to put the most frequently-used items at the forefront and less-used items farther back. Items you might not use up at once or are for a later date can go farther back, but the food you plan to use within the next week or so can go in the front.

Organize by Expiration Date

Another way to do it is to organize by expiration date. Frozen food stays fresh for longer, but all provisions need to be consumed before they go bad eventually. If you organize this way, you can categorize frozen goods by short-term and long-term use and order those two groups by their expiration dates.

Keep an Inventory

Another smart way to organize a freezer is to keep an inventory of what you have. It can be easy to forget what you have when it is buried in the back of the freezer. Keep a list of what you have plus each item’s expiration date for the utmost organization.
