What Is the Refrigerator Water Line For?

It’s easy to think that refrigerators need a water line to keep provisions cold, but they actually do not. Refrigerators use refrigerant, condensers, and evaporators to extract heat out of the fridge and freezer, leaving the interior at the desired temperatures.

If you want purified water from your fridge, there are devices for just that. The alternative is to use a portable ice maker and a separate water pitcher kept in the fridge.
