My Washing Machine Won’t Spin!

One of the quintessential features of a washing machine is that it spins the laundry load. If you have a front-loading washer, it will be apparent from the machine’s door window. There’s nothing quite so relaxing as watching laundry spin? What if it doesn’t? Why is it that your washing machine won’t spin? See if it is any of these reasons below.

Reasons Your Washing Machine Won’t Spin

Laundry Load Problems

The laundry load can significantly influence how well your washing machine works, never mind how clean it gets. If you have stuffed your washer full, it could be so full that the weight of the wet clothing stops the barrel from spinning. Alternatively, if you have one lumpy item in there, like a pillow or comforter, its uneven weight distribution could also cause problems. Add more than one item to the washer to help even out the weight.

Too Much Detergent

Did you know that your detergent could also be the culprit? Too much detergent will cause your clothes to not wash as well, because a soapy coating will prevent them from getting enough friction to do away with the dirt. It can also confuse the washing machine and disrupt the wash cycle.

An Uneven Machine

An uneven machine can also mess up the wash cycle. You can check the machine’s levelness by using a leveler. Unplug the washer, pull it out from its spot, and check the flooring for unevenness or damage. Adjust the machine’s feet until the leveler signals it is completely level.

Not Enough Power

Not enough power would also keep the machine from having enough energy to spin. Do not use an extension cord, nor keep the cord taut. If you do not have enough voltage available, you will need to call an electrician to adjust it.

A Broken Drive Belt

The drive belt is what controls the barrel. If you can spin the empty barrel with no resistance, then the drive belt is broken or loose.
